Went to Pet Shop Boys' concert at Metropolis last night. Great show, as one would expect. These guys are simply brilliant.

Anirudh Koul posted a great set of shots on Flickr - I guess he was standing just in front of the stage as his pictures look really good.

Philippe Rezzonico wrote a very positive review of the show on the Rue Frontenac website (in French) which also provides a full listing of the songs that were performed.

Montreal was the first stop on PSB's American Pandemonium tour. I suggest you get tickets if they come to a city near you over the next few weeks. Good show.

NY Transportation Authority Cites Schedules as Copyrighted Material

New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority has sent a take down notice to Greenwich man Chris Schoenfeld for using Metropolitan Transportation Authority schedules to power his StationStops iPhone application. The popular blogger created an $2.99 application that gives commuters access to MTA train and bus schedules. He received a DMCA last Friday to remove the application from the app store The MTA claims that its scheduling information is copyrighted intellectual property. You read that right. Public train schedules are being treated as copyrighted material.

Seriously...

When you're drowning in knowledge, it's experience that counts

For most of human history, people's quest has been for knowledge. Sir Francis Bacon, one of the pioneers of the scientific method, is today best known for a line in his 1597 essay on spiritual meditation: “Knowledge is power.”

All that changed with the Internet's levelling of the information playing field. In short order, many executives and money managers have gone from desperately searching for information to complaining of drowning in it.

The key to success today is no longer knowledge and information alone; more than ever it's the discipline, experience, perspective and insight to know what to do with that information, something that only comes from the battle scars earned working through multiple market cycles.

Couldn't agree more. Good reading.

Zombie Attack Must be Dealt Swiftly, says Professor Robert Smith?

In case of zombie attack, human must attack quickly and aggressively to avoid the doomsday scenario of zombie domination, says science.

A study conducted by researchers at University of Ottawa and Carleton University used mathematical modeling to predict the scenario of a zombie attack. They based their study on the zombies described in books, films, and video games: slow moving undead creature who can turn other living creatures into zombies with a bite.

God... What will the rest of the world think of us Canucks ;) This is nonetheless pretty interesting.

Fatty Foods Affect Memory and Exercise

DESCRIPTION

Eating fatty food appears to take an almost immediate toll on both short-term memory and exercise performance, according to new research on rats and people.

Other studies have suggested that long-term consumption of a high-fat diet is associated with weight gain, heart disease and declines in cognitive function. But the new research shows how indulging in fatty foods over the course of a few days can affect the brain and body long before the extra pounds show up.
